Smile, Parker Finn’s debut film, topped the weekend box office with a solid $22 million from 3,645 cinemas.
The horror flick kicked off with $8.2 million in cinemas on Friday — including $2 million in previews.
Additionally, it was originally planned for streaming services only and only cost $17 million to produce before marketing, meaning it will be a significant profit maker.
In the film graduate student (Caitlin Stasey) is treated by a therapist after she recently witnessed a horrific suicide.
Its the latest movie success for Paramount, most notably for its marketing division under the direction of Marc Weinstock who also oversaw the marketing campaigns for Deadpool and Maverick.
